My mouse microfreezes for a few microseconds. This happens every few seconds, sometimes after 30 seconds, sometimes within 5 seconds. Even changing window size by drag and drop borders has become a challenge. This wasn't happening earlier. I have some new software installed, but even when I have nothing running, this happens.
What I have figured out is that while using certain software like firefox and chrome it happens. While using intellij idea it happens a lot. Regardless, this happens even when xfce-terminal is running.

My keyboard works fine. Tested by tapping random keys and moving mouse at same time in xfce-terminal.

I am using XFCE on OpenBSD 7.1

I don't even know where to start looking or what to look for

1) disabled xfce-screensaver according to some random linux distro forum. I was disabling using GUI, the forum suggested some CLI option which either wasn't available on my system or I didn't try hard enough. GUI option used was Applications > Settings > Enable Screensaver (clicked the disable toggle)
2) issue persisted
3) Applications > Settings > Session & Startup > Application Autostart > Screensaver (Launch Screensaver & Locker Program) - I unticked this option

Problem solved. At least for now. Will monitor for next 1 week and update

Issue persists, but now it is very sparsely repeated. This is manageable for me, still any help would be appreciated.

The default OpenBSD install has restrictive memory limits - perhaps you're bumping into those. I found that increasing limits helped with brower lockup/crashes.

Be easy to loosen the limits to test and revert if that is not the problem. I used this as a guide - the section on /etc/login.conf and /etc/sysctl.conf

https://www.c0ffee.net/blog/openbsd-on-a-laptop/

A word of caution - memory limits are one of many barriers to poor coding and illlict programs running. It is up to you to balance your memory needs with security/privacy

I have a problem following guides blindly. I did find an error in the captioned link.

Code:
usermod -G staff YOUR_USERNAME
/etc/login.conf follows user class attribute (is this the correct word?). usermod -G will have no effect. If at all some settings have to be played around with, then usermod -L will have to be invoked.

Which now makes me doubt if the rest of this guide is as informative or not.

Will wait for resident experts to weigh in.

Browsers require massive resources. Browser users should be in the "staff" login group. If the user is already in "staff", try a different -- and very simple -- window manager, such as fluxbox. This is to try to determine if the problem is related to X Windows or if there is something in your XFCE environment which may be the cause of the issue. If the problem continues while using fluxbox and your userid is in the "staff" group, then the problem may be X Windows related, and if so, post a copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log here for review.

Thank you! I increased some limits in login.conf under "staff". I also set my machdep.allowapperture=2 in /etc/sysctl.conf

I have not noticed any mouse freezes so far.

The aperture(4) driver isn't used with your Intel graphics hardware, so that sysctl(2) setting won't have any effect.
