Advantages of encrypting drives? Is the only advantage to encrypting your drive to keep someone from physically taking your drive and retrieving data? I would like to install freebsd and encrypt the swap partition but also am thinking about just encrypting the whole system. This pc will only be used for Apache, php, possibly ftp, and firewall. There will be nothing else on the system. My main question is if I were to want to encrypt the whole system, how could you accomplish this?

a tag search would help you
here it is http://daemonforums.org/showthread.php?t=2209 advantage: you can't access data unless you have keys/paraphrase if you don't use encryption almost every file (depends on how willing someone will be to recover) you ever have deleted, can be restored.... http://www.usenix.org/publications/l...apers/gutmann/ encryption also can be beaked, but at least it's not that simple |
