hi
i have an old 3Com shark fin design cable modem and according to the specs it allows user data of up to 38 mbps i just upgraded with road runner to suposedly get 10mbps a second and they are telling me i have to use one of their modems to get the true speed. Is this really true? i have a hard time believing any of that. i go to Different speed tests sites and one site show me with blazing speeds and another shows me with only 3mbps comapared to a 8mbps like ij slow as a turtle. Also i have a Linksys router. can that be adjusted as well to get faster speed This site shows me at full throttle way past the bar http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp How do i really know how fast i am uploading and downloading since i do not know how many people visit these sites at once Thank You

Online speed testing sites rarely show accurate results.. most of them are under strain and have insufficient bandwidth to accommodate users, not only that, but the route to the host could be poor..
Trial it for a few months, see what average speed you can maintain.. note, a 10Mbit line can only achieve ~1MB/ps maximum throughput.. ![]() |
