I have FreeBSD on a sparc machine (sparc64) and would like to do some java development, but am finding it hard trying to install the java development kit. Is it possible?

If you want to do Java development, don't use FreeBSD.

I hate to say it, but Java is a Sun technology. So is sparc hardware. And so is Solaris. Use Solaris + Sparc = Great Java development platform.
