Default Binary Packages - which source for 5.1.1

I'm looking to build an OpenBox desktop using precompiled binaries and it looks like there are many choices as to the PKG_PATH (5.0, 5.0.2, 5.1 etc.) Interestingly the 5.1 packages are 2011Q1 while the 5.0.2 packages are 2011Q3.

It looks like 5.1.1 is a 5.1.0 patched for Bind. Would I have a better chance of success at a working desktop installing a patched 5.0.2? Another way to rephrase my question, what is the OpenBSD -Release, FreeBSD release equivalent in NetBSD?

I prefer to use precompiled binary packages if possible.

I don't know the answer to your general question (I'm not good at the flavours of pkgsrc), but I can tell you what I do and let you decide if it's relevant. I run a 5.1.0_PATCH, and get binary packages from

http://nyftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/i386/5.0/All

and no big problems (though I don't use OpenBox).

Hope that helps.

Default I'm having the same problem

I installed NetBSD 5.1.2, and the only pkgsrc repository I can get to work is 5.0.

I recently took a shot at NetBSD and ended up installing 4.0.1 as the hard drive had a gpt table on it. I did find 2011Q4 binaries here
There were xorg binaries available (4.0.1 comes with Xfree) but about 4/5 the way through the package installation ground to a halt so I gave up.

Thank you classicmanpro ! it works !
Yet another situational irony :
5.1.2 : X fails on Acer Aspire 5610 // packages fine.
6.0 Beta2 : X works but Synaptics touchpad freezes from the start. I tried the same stick on a Compaq Mini CQ 10 (intel atom) .. some packages fail to install as dependencies fail (eg. wget for dillo )
Isn't it cool to have NetBSD on a fragile 4g microSD card ?
:-)
6.0 Beta boots with all options .. whereas 5.1.2 kernelpanics ..
