Post How to boot from a CD with the FreeBSD BTX Loader?

I have a very simple problem:

The OS is FreeBSD 7.0/i386.
How to boot system/computer from a CD-ROM media with the BTX Loader? What's the code?

I am really an novice with the BTX Loader, since I haven't yet needed to use it very much. I have been a FreeBSD user about half years.

Unhappy It doesn't help

It doesn't help. I have set the primary boot device to "CD-ROM Drive" and secondary to "removable devices" but it cannot boot from the CD. The (Phoenix) BIOS is from late 2000, so it's 9 years old.

One of my computers has a BIOS from 1998 and FreeBSD has always worked fine from 5.x to 7.2.
If it's a BIOS issue, you could always try to find an update.

Also, get 7.2 or wait 3 weeks or so for 8.0.
If you do try 7.2, note that it has a booting problem on *some* computers. But you can easily solve it by doing what's mentioned in the errata (it's the first open issue).

If this still doesn't work, you may have a problem with the drive itself. Then do a DOS partition or floppy install.

Thumbs up Problem solved

Thanks for answers! The problem is now solved. To boot the system from a CD, it needed only to configure BIOS settings. But changing the Boot Order didn't help. It had to do with a different way ... by changing Primary Master/Slave options.

Instead of increasing font size to absurd levels, please consider using your browsers "text-zoom" functionality..
