If you like GUIs with a windows paradigm Openbox is a good one. It takes a little learning, but once one is familiar with it it can be customised any way one sees fit.

You still have the link to my pypanel patch. I've not used that in years. Heck, I moved to OpenBSD probably 5 years ago now. I might still have that patch laying around. I have to check and maybe get that link working again.

Heh I do, I just scanned it when I linked to the article. Let me know if you do. Otherwise, I guess I'll just mention that it has passed away.
I do, however, use openbox with OpenBSD too, though these days I use tint2 for the panel.

I put together an OpenBSD guide on this topic. I haven't updated it but it still should work.

Going forward, one concern is the future viability of OpenBox. It is still GTK2 based and the forked code shows no recent commits. Same can be said for Fluxbox and Blackbox.

There is space in the OpenSource ecosystem for a lightweight, stacking WM based on GTK4.

Awesome. I utilized x11/jgmenu in the guide which is another of Johan Malm's coding projects. He generates code and supports it.

Addendum. The port link gives an Error 404 "Bad Link". I've double checked and I think my BB code is correct.

I've used labwc, on Linux, I think. It seemed to ignore a lot of my rc.xml, though in theory, at least, it's supposed to be able to use it. On the other hand, there are various Xorg things I use, and haven't seen any compelling reason, so far, to switch to Wayland. I have a Fedora install that can use either X or Wayland, and they seem about the same to me.
