GhostBSD 2.5 available with GNOME or LXDE

Following several months of development, the GhostBSD project has announced the release of version 2.5 of its BSD distribution. According to its developers, this update to GhostBSD is the result of many parts of the system being "updated, tweaked and fine-tuned".


The LXDE branch of GhostBSD 2.5 in action Zoom GhostBSD 2.5 is based on the recent version 9.0 release of FreeBSD and, for the first time, is now available as two main branches. The standard GNOME edition of GhostBSD includes version 2.32.1 of GNOME as its default desktop, while the new branch includes the lightweight LXDE desktop environment.

the first time I happened to use LXDE was months ago when using energy-saver lubuntu-based WattOS .. it used pcfm as file manager .. when I happily met OpenBSD I found pcfm and used it .. but couldn't find LXDE .. maybe the OpenBSD team don't take heed ..

The OpenBSD developers have an eye toward the elegance that comes from simple, bug free code. If you review the commit history for pcmanfm you will get a sense that they are not enamored with pcmanfm.

For myself, I found xfe in OpenBSD to be a more functional graphical file manager which I now rarely use. File manipulations can be accomplished from the command line in a simple, elegant manner although it does entail learning and reading man pages.

you mean xfce .. you're right eventhough I am happy with default fvwm .. practicality and responsiveness .. and I agree with you : the more one sticks to CLI the more it gets beneficial to one's learning

No, @daemonfowl, Shep meant xfe, not XFCE:

X File Explorer (xfe) is a lightweight file manager for X11, written
using the FOX toolkit.
It is desktop independent and can easily be customized. It has Windows
Commander or MS-Explorer look and it's very fast and small.
Xfe is based on the popular, but discontinued X Win Commander, written
by Maxim Baranov.
