Can gmirror be configured during sysinstall?
We have an automated sysinstall process that is controlled through a DHCP boot server. We basically just have to plug a new box into our boot server, configure it to boot via the network, and the whole installation process is automated without any human intervention necessary, using the batch mode of sysinstall.
We have recently decided that we want to mirror the OS in our base image, but we're not sure if this can be done as part of the sysinstall process. Has anyone attempted to do this kind of thing, to configure a mirrored OS with geom/gmirror during the initial sysinstall, so that it doesn't have to be done as a post install operation? |

Not with the current version of sysinstall (FreeBSD 6.x, 7.x), no. At least, not directly, using the sysinstall interface. You could probably script something up, though.
The PC-BSD installer allows you to use gmirror (and I believe even ZFS, for non-/ partitions). The finstall project appears to enable gmirror (and ZFS??) during the install process. |

Thanks, I'll check these out. Do you know if either of these allow automated (scripted) installs?
