Default OpenBSD Virtual Porting Workshop on Twitch.tv

UPDATE 8/15: HERE IS THE RECORDED VIDEO
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_TnemhzbXQ

UPDATE 8/6: THIS WILL BE HAPPENING ON AUGUST 11 AT 2 PM EDT!
https://twitch.tv/NewAstroCity

Here's a pre-announcement for something I'm going to do some time next month.

thfr@ has created a system that allows for easy streaming to services such as Twitch.tv (you should totally check out his page at https://www.twitch.tv/communities/openbsd_gaming and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCF2...oFZtz0ADX3Us0Q -- he streams himself playing commercial games natively on OpenBSD!). But why should we just use it for video game streaming? I ran a poll on my Twitter the other day about what they would watch me stream, and the results are that people would tune in to watch and participate in a virtual OpenBSD porting workshop. So this is what we will do.

I don't have a date yet. But stay tuned to this thread to keep informed!

Hopefully this can be a recurring event.

As announced here: https://bsd.network/@bcallah/100506504666397220

OK I've decided. This Saturday (August 11) at 2 PM EDT I'll be running a *free* "#OpenBSD ports: the basics" workshop on Twitch.tv.

Participation is encouraged. To participate, install OpenBSD -current on a machine and set up a ports tree according to https://www.openbsd.org/faq/ports/ports.html

My Twitch username is NewAstroCity, so that's where I'll be broadcasting.

Yes, it will be recorded and posted on YouTube.

*bump*

I'd like to encourage anyone remotely interested in OpenBSD ports development to have a look a ibara's recorded Porting Workshop (linked above, you can forward to 0:12.47 which is when it really starts, btw). I've had this on my harddrive since August 2018 and, finally *lol*, I got around to sit down and watch it. And this afternoon I created my first ever tiny little port.

Highly recommended.

There already is a port of st: https://github.com/openbsd/ports/tree/master/x11/st

Maybe it's time to finally make the sequel, now a year and a half later. I did a full-day porting workshop, which was well-attended, at vBSDcon 2019 but sadly it wasn't recorded: https://www.vbsdcon.com/schedule/201...ml#talk:132616

(Don't read the abstract. I literally cannot believe they published that.)
