Default Rust getting into mainline Linux kernel and AOSP

Rust support in Linux may be possible by 5.14 release: Torvalds

The first patches for Rust support in the Linux kernel have been posted and the man behind the kernel says the fact that these are being discussed is much more important than a long post by Google about the language.

Am I the only one who did think this "rust" was not a computer language?

When I saw "Rust getting into mainline ..." on the forum index, I thought it was a job for a plumber.

Although there is no Rust language specification or standard, Facebook joined the Rust Foundation. See https://www.zdnet.com/article/rust-p...says-facebook/

Facebook joining RF probably isn't the best marketing news you can hope
Anyway Rust is used heavily by Mozilla in Firefox. Microsoft also announced Rust usage and is one of the founders of Rust Foundation. Another OS vendor - Google - announced Rust usage in Android. Not only in Android kernel, but other parts as well.
Maybe C has official specs, but the evidence is clear that C language programs are plagued by memory bugs. Some memory bugs slip into peer reviewed code even if it was coded by veterans of C programming.
