Linux 6.1: Rust language to hit mainline kernel

Kees Cook made the pull request and Linus Torvalds accepted it earlier this week, meaning that Linux 6.1 will soon have direct support for Rust code, as teased earlier this week. The initial support is in the region of 12-and-a-half thousand lines of code.

The tin-foil brigade seem to be getting very wound up about this. I think they're conflating copyright with licensing, or at least that's all I can glean from their rantings.

Does anybody know of any sound technical reasons why Rust should be prohibited from the Linux kernel?

EDIT: and it hasn't broken anything for me:

Zig may be a great programming language, but whether it is suitable to write the Linux kernel or not, only the programming experts can say.
