Installing flash for Opera
I've seen a number of guides to installing Flash for Firefox and some information the NDISwrapper.
The handbook states that first I should install linux-base, I already have binary emulation which I set up at initial install. Is this different? Also, there are four versions of linux-base- f7, f8, fc4 and fc6. Is the f fedora? (I ask because there are also gentoo versions) However, I'd really prefer to get this up and running in Opera. (I much prefer that browser) Has anyone carried this out to date? Could you please suggest links and/or provide steps. Mamy thanks. |

This solution works for me in FreeBSD, however the issue I have seems to come from the dated version of flash (the audio falls out of sync badly on all flash video). Is there a way to fix this? Will Adobe every support the BSD's? What sort of awful virtual machine is adobe using for flash, and why is it so inefficient?

The gnash cvs version works slightly better than flash7, but has issues and uses many resources. The only way I've been able to have working flash was with wine in a windows browser+flash.

You should try swfdec. It works very well for me and supports Flash 7 and some select features from 8 and 9.

I just installed swfdec to try it out (Using native Opera 9.5) but does not seem to be recognised by Opera (nor Firefox). Is there something more I need to do?
Edit: I read in an article that swfdec-mozilla is also required (The web browser plugin) but that doesn't seem to be in my ports tree... Edit#2: swfdec-plugin under ports/www Last edited by enpey; 13th August 2008 at 11:05 AM. |

I am not really interested in using GNASH or swfdec. I'd just like to get the standard Adobe version running.

Sorry maxrussell, to get Flash 7 working previously I have simply googled for it.
However I would try simply installing linux-flashplugin7 from ports/www/ |

So, with the linux fc base installed, it still stalls:
Code:
max@/usr/ports/www/linux-flashplugin7: sudo make clean install clean Password: ===> Cleaning for linux_base-fc-4_13 ===> Cleaning for linux-flashplugin-7.0r73_1 ===> linux-flashplugin-7.0r73_1 has known vulnerabilities: => linux-flashplugin -- unspecified remote code execution vulnerability. Reference: <http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/portaudit/04c6187d-2d8f-11dd-98c9-00163e000016.html> => Please update your ports tree and try again. *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/www/linux-flashplugin7. *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/www/linux-flashplugin7. |

Yes, flashplugin7 is very outdated and has several security issues. which is why the port won't install.
You can define DISABLE_VULNERABILITIES to override this, i.e.: # cd /usr/ports/www/linux-flashplugin7 && make install clean -DDISABLE_VULNERABILITIES

The word on the mailing lists is that linux-flashplugin9 works "rather okay" on 8-CURRENT where Linuxulator is at version 2.6.16 by default. So, 8-RELEASE might be when we get a working Flash 9 plugin.

Any knowledge of how insecure the insecurity is? I mean, I don't believe I use any pages where I transmit personal details via Flash, certainly not banking etc.

I followed the links for the Adobe tarball, yet it seems to be for a Linux installer. Are the .so files available from somewhere?
IGNORE LAST REQUEST. thanks guys (n' girls) - I downloaded the latest linux .so file, whacked it in the /usr/local/lib/browser_plugins directory and I'm up and running! Last edited by maxrussell; 27th August 2008 at 05:54 PM. |

Back again on this one, briefly.
I notice with Facebook (yes, at times I do indulge) that it still detects the 7.x version and notifies me, although I know the 9 version is up and running (because I checked with the Adobe flash version page). Anyone got any idea how to stop this? |
