In adding SSL encryption to its primary search engine, Google isn't just protecting your traffic from anyone sniffing your network. It's also preventing third-party webmasters from tracking the search terms you used to find their sites. That may be a good thing for netizens intent on privacy lockdown. But for webmasters, it could be a bit of a problem.

I've been turning of the "Send reffer information" option in Opera for a great many years for exactly this reason.

I use the RefControl extension for Firefox and can selectively enable/disable sending refers, as unfortunately some sites are broken and rely on them.

There is just a button builtin Opera that also does that:

You also have buttons for enable/disable plugins, Javascript, etc.

You can also enable/disable it per-site basis using "Edit site preferences".

Opera doesn't need no stinkin' add-ons

I know about the buttons in the Appearance dialog box, but I get a checkbox plus 2 or 3 words, whereas using the method I mentioned I get a "two-state" button with the link/bookmark name as caption. So in just about 50 pixels, I get "Ref" and "JS".
