I need like to install DenyHosts on OpenBSD 4.9!
Greetings to all,
Has anyone been able to install DenyHosts on OpenBSD 4.9 running on SPACRstation5? I have read on this forum that it's a very good tool to aid in limiting brute force attacks on ssh. The information I gather thus far is that Python (python python2.3-dev) needs to be installed. I have looked in http://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/4.9/packages/sparc/ and found several versions of python and did not see python(v)-dev. Can some please suggest the correct version that would work with my system and the best way to install it. Again I would like to thank you for you assistance. Regards |

What's wrong with using OpenBSD's PF? It can do the same job.
If you are not familar with PF, I suggest reading PF FAQ and pf.conf(5). There's an excellent tutorial on PF, which also covers brute attacks. |

You'll find Python 2.4, 2.5, and 2.6 in your nearest mirror's 4.9 sparc packages directory.
See http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net/requirements.html |

OpenBSD doesn't separate package libraries and headers into "developer" packages, so unlike many Linux distributions when you install python it will include everything.
