Gnome - Clear Font in all applications
Hi,
today I installed gnome on my desktop. What I recogniced very fast is, that it's very hard to look longer times at the screen and try to read texts. Why? The font looks very unsharp and definetly not clear. Rendering is switched on. I tried to select subpixeling for tfts and the other options within gnome I got, but this does not solve my problem. I want clear fonts as I know them out of windows and other Linux derivates. How can I solve my problem? |

Fonts are an interesting problem, people prefer different things.. generally additional fonts and/or configuration are needed to get things suitable for regular users.
Linux distributions include various font packages, and have system-wide fonts.conf configuration files to make things presentable (..rules for hinting, alias, font substitution, etc). It's not going to be super easy, but, if you take the time.. you can get things how you want, and you can even "borrow" TrueType fonts from your friends Windows/Mac system if you don't care about licensing. http://www.openbsd.org/faq/truetype.html |

thanx for your reply.
I´m not really sure if the problem is not the display driver itself? I would agree with you, if it would not be that unclear like it is on my screen. Seems like some letters are smoothed, and some not (like if someone uses 1280x7xx screen resolution, but it should be 1440x900 for example). Coding is very very hard for my eyes with this problem. If I change to other fonts and other sizes, it is still the same problem. |

If you have a flat panel, have you confirmed that the resolution X is using is the preferred resolution for the monitor?
