Default can't get out of twm - any escape?

After finally managing install and (with help) get twm working, I started experimenting with commands.

Don't know what I did at one point, but am stuck in twm now.
Exit worked for getting the windows away partly (all colors and icons are away) but the X11 doesn't shut.
Shutdown -h now or exit or logout... nothing works.

The screen I see has text starting with
last pid: 1762; load averages (etcetera)
and has the cursor on a blank spot after which (next line) is
PID USERNAME (etcetera)
pressing esc shows
Command not understood

Any way of getting out?
I read that BSD should never be simply turned off by the power button.

Try to kill X Window by pressing CTRL-ALT-Backspace.

You need to be root to do a shutdown -h now. Same condition is needed to go into single user mode using
Code:
$ kill -TERM 1

THANK YOU!!
I should've remembered, this is one of the very first things I ever read about X11
It's the late hour again to blame (or the age )

BTW, you can also use CTRL-ALT-F[1-8] (assuming default configuration) to switch to console and manage from there.
