Default Gnumeric crashes under NetBSD evbarm

For me a big problem: Since 9.3 my NeBSD evbarm on my RaspberryPi's 4B crashes, as soon I open a .gnumeric file or enter any data into a cell. The crash produces a gnumeric.core file with size 0, there is no message in Xorg.o.log neither in messages.

This behaviour is 1005% reproducable and it happens always. However I remember older version, which ran properly. No problems under OpenBSD or FreebSD.

Any idea what going wrong here?

Regards
Berni

You should get some information by starting gnumeric from a terminal. Good chance there will be trailing error messages.

There have also been 2 recent updates:

Thanks Scott.
The only message I get when starting gnumeric from a terminal is "Illegal memory access" bevor gnumeric dies. Thats all.

Unfortunately the current libxkbcommon in pkgsrc/arm64 is 1.6. Looks like I have to wait for 1.7.0. Pkgscr/amd64 already uses 1.7.0.

I fear there is nothing I can do, as I am not a programmer.

Just noticed you are on evbppc, I update my notes to that

I wonder if you have a mix of different versions in pkgsrc.

What is in file /usr/pkg/etc/pkgin/repositories.conf ? I have this:
Code:
https://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/$arch/10.0_2024Q1/All
You can try this, but I cannot guarantee it will work. My thinking is you need to update pkgsrc to a newer versions. Seems the latest pkgsrc is 2023/Q4. So maybe you need to wait ? Anyway:

Stop any pkgsrc specific daemons in /etc/rc.conf.

Update file /usr/pkg/etc/pkgin/repositories.conf to match your release maybe you want:
Code:
https://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/$arch/9.0_2023Q4/All
Then as root do:

Code:
# pkgin update
# pkgin upgrade

Thanks for all the kind hints. I tried it all, but witout any success. Gnumeric crashes as soon as I write a number into a cell and confirm with ENTER.

Meanwhile I have a similar problem with Firefox127, which crashes immediately after start with the same error message as Gnumeric: "Illegal memory access"

Probably the evbarm port has to less developers.

Gnumeric works fine on my PC running 10.0, so must be attributable to the ARM version only.

I tried a lot the last several weeks, but without any success. Everything works fine on my amd64 machines, but on arm64 Gnumeric is unusable. Looks I have to live with it.

Gnumeric stlii crashes on my arm64 machines and I cannot find a solution.
So I am looking for alternatives and tried the abs spread sheet. That works, but seems to be so buggy and unfinished that I cannot use it.
I ended in using the good old sc, but I'm still looking for an X application.
Any ideas?

Berni
