I recall that some applications, not in xenocara, were built with xorg/xenocara dependencies. If you know that your system will not be using applications with the dependencies, you can probably get away with it. More likely you will be opening a can of worms which have been opened in the past - see @jggimi second bullet point.

I remember seeing mention of this too. I also remember Theo (I think) saying he may remove the option and force people to install all disk sets.

Plus I think keeping X could be beneficial. For example, there could be an instance were you log into the system and use X-forwarding to kick off a monitor of some type. I have done that in the past.

Plus, X does not really take up any space.

I used to leave out the compilers & games sets, but it only saved about 60MB, so don't bother any more.
