Default [FR] longer session times

Please consider increasing the session times for this forum. It's constantly logging me out even when i'm trying to write a post. The longer the better, IMO but whatever you can spare would be nice.

The problem might be with your browser. I say that because I have never had such problems with any of the browsers I have used over the years. I suggest checking your browser's settings.

Anything's possible, but i doubt it. No other site i visit on a regular basis logs me out constantly. Some of my own applications have sessions that last up to 12 hrs and the browser (FF on fedora) works fine. Maybe you don't agonize over your posts like i do, so you post within the 15/30 minute(?) session TTL and never notice any problem with it.

if one looks through this category's threads you can see people mentioning the short session TTL several times, so it's not just me.

It's not the end of the world, but not being logged out while you're trying to post would make the site nicer to use.

At this moment the session timeout is 900 seconds (15 minutes).
And you are the first in 12 years to complain that it is not long enough.

If you need longer, than you could create your post or comment off line in an editor. And then paste it when you are ready to post.

sure, but what is the rationale for keeping it so short?

IIRC Microsoft recommends 8 minutes, the Payment Card Industry 15 minutes.

If you login for the first time, the system asks you if want to be remembered? Did you indicate you want to?

no offense intended, but i really don't care what those entities think. I was asking what daemonforums.org' s rationale was. No big deal. I was just curious.

no, i accidentally ignored that antiquated "feature". I just checked and this vbulletin instance sets 3 cookies without the "remember me", and 5 cookies with it. That's hilarious, but OK. I'll just use that. Thanks for the help.
