Managing multi platform accounts
In my little local network there are a few Windows-machines, a couple of Linux and BSD boxes, a FreeBSD firewall/fileserver/ntpd/etc. Some of the machines are dualboot.
It is currently working very well apart from one thing: managing of accounts and passwords. Given this set up what sort of tools or mechanisms would solve this? Also, I'd like a simple way of adding a new machine and have it pick up all accounts more or less automatically. |

This new thread appears to be a duplicate restatement of the one you began yesterday here: http://www.daemonforums.org/showthread.php?t=5069
I am not a FreeBSD user. With that out of the way.... The primary tool you should invesigate is LDAP -- particularly, OpenLDAP. LDAP provisioning is discussed in the FreeBSD Handbook, but not interoperation with Windows. If a BSD platform is to act as a Windows Primary Domain Controller (PDC) for authentication, integrated with LDAP, you will need Samba. There are plenty of "howto" documents you can find with Google -- I recommend you research any such documents found in the wild on the Internet very carefully, and be sure you understand any recommended commands and configuration settings completely before implementing them. |
