Booting netBSD 5 install failed

Hi.
I normally use Linux as my OS but would like to try a BSD System. But for some reason I don't seem to be able to install one. I have tried with NetBSD, OpenBSD and PCBSD in the past, but never have I been able to get any installer up and running. Funny since I have no problems installing and setting up Slax or Arch Linux systems, witch also is done CLI style.

Yesterday I ran into an article about the new NetBSD 5.0 and decided to give it one more try. But once again it just stops with errors. Could someone help me reach the installer for NetBSD? I really would like to install it this time.

No, you would not like to try to install BSD. If you did you wouldn't use virtual machine. What you are asking us to do is trouble shoot peace of crappy software (BSDs) running on the crappy virtual machine on the top of the big peace of crap called Linux.

Hmm, well Linux can at least be installed on a computer, AND on a virtual one to.

Besides, what kind of answer is that anyway? If you did not want to help, you could just keep away. Now your not only confirming that BSD sucks, but it's users as well apparently?

Try using KVM or VMware, VirtualBox is not very compatible with BSDs.

Qemu works well also, though kqemu (the accelerator) is usually not recommended.

The only BSD platform that Sun/Oracle claims to support is FreeBSD, but that is really debatable.

Emulation is not the proper way to test an OS, OpenBSD/NetBSD and FreeBSD were designed to run on real hardware.. and they run quite fine on real hardware.. the flaws are in the emulation software, not {Open,Net,Free}BSD.

Or Live CD. But I guess it is easier to spread the FUD about BSDs than to use the logic.

although for real things probably the way to go is TrueBSD

BSD's run pretty well in vmware, never found any problems with different versions of OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. I tested a few on virtualbox and it seems only NetBSD gave serious problems. I do noticed that FreeBSD gave an occasianal gcc crash, but that was rare. Anyway if you want to try a BSD in a VM I recommend trying out vmware (vmplayer is free).

And so is VMWare Server which allows you to make virtual machines. I've got one at work running OpenBSD 4.4 which works just fine. There's no option to make an OpenBSD VM of course, you just pick "other" or "other Unix" (whatever it happens to say), select the ISO as the CD drive, and run it.
