OpenBSD 5.8 macppc wscons font after install
I've installed OpenBSD 5.8 on a Powerbook G4, 12 " successfully.
These are the specs, it has an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 . http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...g4_1.5_12.html When booting from the install58.iso , I have a normal font in the console which is readable and text fits an exact line on my screen. However after the install , when I boot , the font is bigger ( looks like ComicSans ) and basically bigger than my screen width when displaying lines. I've attached both my dmesg , from the install cd once it's booted and from the installed system. I cannot find any difference in them, both use vgafb (frame buffer) and on macppc one cannot use wsconscfg to load a different font. Is this a kernel option which is different between the install cd and the kernel after it is installed ? Should I be looking a compiling a custom kernel and if so what option should I be looking at ? I just tried booting the 5.9 install cd but there I have the same big font so on 5.8 there is a difference between the install. Thanks upfront for your time and answers, I'm so happy that I have almost perfect system running but since I use the console the most I would like to have this issue resolved. |

After reading all the messages in the OpenBSD powerpc mailing list , I found the solution
which as I suspected means compiling your own kernel because one option has to be added. The post from the OpenBSD powerpc mailing list http://openbsd-archive.7691.n7.nabbl...-td233231.html A guide on how to do this ( in German but still usable ) look at the Section Framebuffer http://linuxwiki.de/BennySiegert/iBook2 Hope this helps anybody who has been googling to find this solution without knowing the correct option |
