Question Firefox 108.0.1 and OpenBSD 7.2 - Won't navigate at all?

Hello all,

I just did a nuke and re-pave of my Thinkpad T480 with 7.2 and I've noticed that I can't navigate to any web sites at all in Firefox 108.0.1. When I type in the address and hit enter, it just clears out the address bar and generates a firefox.core file in my home directory.

Has anyone else seen this or does anyone have any ideas? Chromium works just fine but I'd prefer to use Firefox.

Thanks!

Idea #1 - Check to be sure your user has sufficient resources, by being provisioned in the staff class.

Idea #2 - Review the package readme file, there may be some additional provisioning you will need to do for your use-case.

Idea #3 - If you're running the -release, check which version of the browser is installed. 7.2-release came with FF 105.0.1 and FF ESR 102.3.0. As of this writing, 7.2-stable packages, usable with -release, are currently up to FF 108.0.1 and FF ESR 102.6.0.

Did a clean install of OpenBSD 7.2-release all is well with Firefox 108.

Oops. I didn't notice the FF version was in the thread title. Sorry.

In current, I've noticed that Firefox-esr upgrades tend not to have issues like ungoogled-chromium.
The way I work around this is to
  • Export Bookmarks
  • rm -rf ~/.config/ungoogled-chromium
  • Start and configure settings
  • import bookmarks

Firefox configurations are in ~/.mozilla. and instead of a nuke/s;ystem reinstall
rm -rf ~/.mozilla/firefox.

Note, I do not use thunderbird but if you do you need to be careful about potentially deleting your email configurations.

[Fixed] Looks like it was a "you aren't a member of staff" class problem. Thanks!
