What's the big surprise?
Assuming that Microsoft doesn't cut any deals letting third parties hack on their code, rather then making consensions to make other businesses bogoware work on Microsoft's, I would think that this is actually a reason for Linux to be more attractive to big business. Linux -> Missing something? Hire the monkies.

The big surprise is that because some Redhat employees get paid to hack on gcc, they just drop gcc support for processors, for which Redhat doesn't care.
Physical economic structures greatly influences or determines the spiritual/cultural superstructures. You never heard about Karl Marx's philosophical and sociological work? That is why NetBSD and OpenBSD , still supporting older processors, have to use older gcc versions for those oldies.

I always thought it was the natural law of the jungle, Anthony P. Kirby style.
In some ways, I wonder what would have happened if BSD had picked up development of PCC, instead of migrating to GCC ages ago.
