Ah almost forgot to mention, my second t61 had a larger 9cell batter with 1.8ghz core2 duo and 2mb cache, the battery was just as horrible as my 2ghz with 4mb cache.
This T500 lasts MUCH longer on battery life ![]()

You'll have to test out a few ports yourself, AFAIK mplayer works as well. I am glad that you have a quick list prepped ![]() ![]() I do wish to attest to the efficiancy of the said hardware items, it REALLY made a difference on my battery life. BTW unfortunitly my T500 does not have the dual video cards Intel/ATI switchable graphics (thus easier yet on battery). I would certainly recommend Lenovo's to all, I used to be brand specific long ago, it's back i guess ... my brand specificism that is ... ![]() -> BSDfan666 I am also glad that you are informative and helpful, and do thank you for sharing what you do know about what others may not yet. I am not heartbroken at fact that only some of my 5in1 card reader slots are supported, SD is good for me although i would like to be able to boot from it (checked my BIOS and tried already, give it another check maybe BIOS update). Firewire? geez I think i have used it 3 times ... the unsupported HECI/AMI does not phase me either, my video is working fine for my purposes. Thanks for couple suggestions on applications to try out my camera with, i will be checking into that very soon and i will also review uvideo man pages again.

We use the Dell D630's at work (which i selected and about 6 D830's for the CAD persons), i also have a MacBook Pro and an older HP (dont recall model) for support purposes, i am not allowed to bring my own equipment as it is a Crown network with government data and such.
We recently switched to all the new Dell servers as well, still running about 6 older Xeon based HP/Compaq 4U rack mounts, and about 28 new Dell 1U and 2U rack mounts, in 3 different cities VPN's together, working great. I LOVE Dell's services, incredibly great it really bumped then up in by coorporate books, i have also personally owned about 3 dell laptops, i was quite happy with them all. Dell has shipped me overnight parts with great phone service to boot, allowing me minimum down time, and great turnover. I have also had the privilege of dealing with IBM/Lenovo (with a gold partner contract) at my previous employer, and also the other big manufacurers as well, daily. HP services is god dam horrible gold partner or not, they actually told me to call the gold partner number (which i always do) once to "help" me, i told them i did call that number, they said hang up and try again, no transfer or nothing, geez even Microshaft will transfer you... I do realize that this may not have much to do with laptops, but i'm just sharing experiences and reading others's experiences. Lenovo's do seem to support the BSD's great from my experiences, that is why i've been sticking with them for about 2 years now, i have tried MANY other laptop manufacturers even on my 6th Apple laptop(sold one with XP Pro on it NO boot camp, just XP drivers, SOOO many ppl said "you can't do that" no MacBook for you foo) Ima go check some other posts, ![]()

I'm waiting to run OpenBSD on my Thinkpad X201.
Currently everything seems to run smoothly with it but I get some flickering / blanking in X occasionally which seems to start on video playback. After that gets resolved I plan to replace my current Linux installation with OpenBSD. I'm pretty impressed how quickly the X201 was supported by OpenBSD. |

ThinkPad X301 type 2777
- sound works - sleep works once you put apmd_flags="" in rc.conf.local - x works with no configuration - wifi works with iwn driver, wired ethernet works too - brightness controls on the keyboard work - I haven't noticed any flickering or weird video stuff oh and I had to change the sata mode or whatever it's called from ahci to compatibility in the bios. otherwise it would hang on boot with some error (I've read about this elsewhere a few months ago). If a package was looking for an older library, then that package was out of date, this happens as the packages aren't built at the same time as snapshots so you often need to use the ports tree yourself when following them.
The major number of a library version is cranked whenever an incompatible change is made, and programs need to be relinked, 13.0->13.1 is safe, 13.0->14.0 is not. yeah, it looks like it was an issue with the packages. I deleted the libX11.so.13.0 symlink but left the nawk one, then rebuilt tk from the ports tarball I got at the same time as the snapshot.

Gateway M275. It's basically the same as a Toshiba Tablet from 2003.
I've installed OpenBSD alongside Net, and Free. Everything works. The Intel 2200/2100 driver has to be imported. |

I have OpenBSD 5.0 i386running on
Thinkpad A22p (PIII 9oo Mhz, 512 MB RAM, 40GB HD). Thinkpad T23 (PIII 1.13 Mhz, 1024 MB RAM, 30GB HD). On this laptop even suspend when when lid is closed works and X is configured automatically. Everything works. added: Thinkpad R61 (Intel Core Duo 1.8 Mhz, 2GB RAM, 60GB HD) OpenBSD 5.0 amd64. Everything works perfect. Just make sure download and install wpi-firmware package if internal wpi wireless is installed. This is so far the best OS I've used and I tried about most top 20 Linux distros, Freebsd and PC-BSD. OpenBSD rocks ![]() Note: T23 with internal wireless is working nice going to suspend when lid is closed, but A22p with external PC-CARD wireless wouldn't. So I did popped out the PC wireless card and suspend just fine. I did not want to popping card in and out just to suspend, so I figured out to leave the PC wireless card plugged in and just log off from the X back to console/terminal and shut down wireless connection with "sudo ifconfig wi0 down" (depend on the card it could be different then wi0 , like ath0 etc.) Close the lid and suspend nicely. When wakes up after suspend I just issue "sudo ifconfig wi0 up", followed with "sudo sh /etc/netstart" and wireless is on and connected again. Go back to X with "startx". I am really impressed with OpenBSD. It does everything I need. If I really want to watch something with flash, I just boot with one of the live Linux distros or jump on my wife's windows laptop. I recently got a lowish-end laptop, the HP 2000-240CA.
Below I'm attaching a dmesg for OpenBSD amd64 -current. Some items of note that are not (yet) supported by OpenBSD are: * Radeon HD 6310 graphics (but VESA driver is fine) * Realtek card reader * Realtek RTL8188CE wireless dmesgs for NetBSD and Linux and other comments are in the NetBSD Laptop Thread.
