Default Freebsd broadcom driver

I am a archlinux user and want to switch my laptop from linux to freebsd as freebsd was the first open source OS i used and its my first love

But I doubt that my broadcom 4312(rev 1) wifi card will work with freebsd.

In linux I am using this driver http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19514.

Is this driver available in freebsd or is there alternative to this driver in freebsd.

As far as I know just OpenBSD has got such a driver, http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.c...86&format=html

At the moment there is no support for Broadcom wifi in FreeBSD,

The openbsd driver doesn't list bcm4312 as supported. It seems I have to wait a long time before I can switch over to freebsd

Is there any alternative method you can suggest. Any suggestion.

Broadcom driver for OpenBSD was developed in spite of fierce opposition by Broadcom which publicly stated on many occasions that they want their customers to run only Windows. NetBSD has the driver for Broadcom devices. I think though that it is only OpenBSD driver ported to NetBSD so should not support more devices.
There is FreeBSD port of the same driver circulated among developers but nobody have committed it yet to kernel. Most Broadcom devices also require firmware.

You only chance is to try ndis utility in FreeBSD and generate the FreeBSD driver form the Windows driver (YMMW). Other than that I would ditch Broadcom since they obviously do not want us as customers.

Or just buy some Atheros wifi for some bucks, I wouldn't care about Broadcom anymore.

OpenBSD does support the BCM4312 chipset, but only revision 1 of it.. which you appear to have!

Revision 2 requires a newer firmware... which is unsupported.

Yes there are some Wikis around the net but our community REALLY like when people read man pages and OpenBSD FAQ

http://www.openbsd.org/faq/index.html

We also have a mailing lists (misc AT openbsd comes to mind) for general
questions but before you post something there look the mailing list archives
as most of the questions have been answered already.

OpenBSD is one of the best documented Operating Systems and projects around. OpenBSD is also probably the simplest and most logical version of Unix around. It is not for everyone and for everything though.

Community is very friendly and helpful but OpenBSD is not about hand holding like many other projects.

Good to have you on the board.

The answer to that last question can be found in the OpenBSD FAQ
