Default FreeBSD compiled packages - where are they?

Not having used FreeBSD for quite a while, I cannot find any ftp/http site with binary packages (compiled FreeBSD ports)

How about http://pkg.freebsd.org/?

Looks like the packages can't be downloaded directly though, unless I'm missing something.

Thanks for the reference to the mailing list, which explains why.
But it doesn't solve my issue of finding out for example which FreeBSD release is supporting which PHP releases.

That info is in github, /usr/ports/UPDATING announces the switch to a newer PHP version. Other programs are usually announced in the Release Notes for a release.
