Anyway Rust is used heavily by Mozilla in Firefox. Microsoft also announced Rust usage and is one of the founders of Rust Foundation. Another OS vendor - Google - announced Rust usage in Android. Not only in Android kernel, but other parts as well.
Maybe C has official specs, but the evidence is clear that C language programs are plagued by memory bugs. Some memory bugs slip into peer reviewed code even if it was coded by veterans of C programming.
