wine error
Hi
I've installed wine to test a program but when I run wine I get the following error Code:
> wine something.exe wine: could not load L"Z:\\usr\\home\\me\\test\\something.exe": Invalid address > Can anyone help me with getting this to work? Thanks hamba |

I read on one of the FreeBSD mailing lists that the most recent version of Wine (1.1.18?) has this bug. It is a regression. Your choices are two: wait for the bug to be fixed, or use portdowngrade to install the previous version.

I saw them too, but I didn't know that it was a bug.
I'll try to downgrade wine and see what happens. |
|
|||
What I recall reading is that the previous Wine version did not show this behavior, and that this new bug may be FreeBSD-specific. I don't think much is known yet, so downgrading is probably the best course for now.

I've downgraded to wine-1.1.2 and now its working
Thanks for the help, now I have to figure out why it doesn't want to connect to the network |

I see wine's been updated in ports, I'm assuming the bug is now fixed

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a look at it on monday.

Wine has just been updated to version 1.1.9 which should fix that problem.
|

nice, I'll update wine a little later to test the new version
|

I've installed wine 1.1.9_1,1 and the "Invalid Address" problem still exists.
I'm using FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE on i386 platform. |

I'm running 7.0-RELEASE/i386 and I get the same errors with the Wine 1.1.9_1,1 ports installation. According to the WineHQ site, this is a developmental branch, not a stable branch.
The WineHQ site claims that 1.0.1, released 10/17/08, is the current stable release. The source tarball compiles fine, and the resulting binaries seem rather stable on my system. Unfortunately, the current precompiled package uses Wine 0.9.48.1, a version over a year old. Many of my Win32 programs fail with this version. Perhaps somebody should poke the Wine maintainer and have them update the precompiled package once the ports freeze is lifted. I'm thinking it might also be nice to have two ports, one pointing to the release branch, the other pointing to the development branch. |

|||
I'm trying wine 1.0.1. It seems rather old, since the "IME overflow error" disappered in version 1.1.9 ( running wine's notepad ) appeared in 1.0.1, and the iphlpapi:getRouteTable error is showing up.
But, at least it runs my apps correctly. Maybe we need wine and wine-devel in ports? |

I just want to add a "me too" here; FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE, i386, wine 1.1.9; getting the "could not load, invalid address" error.
