I wonder if they will ever stabilise this work, or maybe in 2019 we will be seing DRI4 with reworked Mesa3D and Gallium2 along with new unified memory manager for whole kernel and another 2D accelration algorithm ...

Its developed mostly by Linux people and they love to rewrite things from scratch no matter if old attitude was good or not, they are just bad at fixing/huntung bugs propably.
We currently have LLVM compiler for 99% of the source code, pcc is updated also, maybe some day we will have something like BSD fork of x11, a more customized Xenocara for example, I would love to see such thing written by NetBSD people, they write so great minimalistic things.
