Default NetBSD 5.99 installation on Acer Aspire 5610

Hi BsdFans !

OS : NetBSD 5.99.65
Target machine : Acer Aspire 5610

A while ago , I downloaded the NetBSD.5.99.65 iso .. installation went smoothly ..

a note from a total newbie :

* first surprise :no panic !

so I didn't have to opt for (no acpi no smp ) choice .. I am on Acer Aspire 5610 ..

whereas on NetBSD 5.1.2 which I had tested before I moved to current , a panic greets me thrice :

first option 1 (default) it said :
kernel : superior trap protection fault ,code=0
stopped in pid 0.31 (system) at netbsd: lapic_gettick: pushl %ebp
db{0}>

so I rebooted then chose second option (no ACPI) , yet the panic was persistent but now with a lightly different message :
stopp ed in pid 0.29
lapic_delay+0x9c: cdq
db{0}>

after a second reboot with 3rd choice (No ACPI NO SMP) : it worked .. ./.

* second surprise : startx works out of the box ! this was not the case with 5.1 and 5.1.2 on Acer ..

* third surprise : this time ironic : old ftp problem persists !

I still cannot ftp to ftp.netbsd.org .. although I can do so to ftp.jp.netbsd.org

and this is not the end of it .. as this also means that whenever I use pkgsrc it ends up in timeout ..
this is exaclty what happened when I ftp to the official server :

Quote:
trying 2001:470:4867:99::21:21 ...
ftp: can't connect to ...........................
no route to host
trying 32.1.4.112:21
is it that I am unable to use ipv6 ? and that beloved JPServer is reachable because it sticks to ipv4 ? lol .. what other tweak must I add ?
yes ipv6 is inevitable but it doesn not serve me well here ..
A fresh and clean OS .. but I still can't use pkgsrc ..

Hi,
I believe you must enable IPv6 in the kernel. Of course that's a stupid situation with no connection .

Cheers
