Poll: OpenBSD Preferred Email client for BareGUI
I'm reviewing my Guide thread on a simple OpenBSD Desktop, BareGUI, and am open to changing the default Email client from /mail/alpine. I personally use mail/mutt but chose alpine as it has a configuration interface. This poll is less about what you personally use and more about which client you would recommend to an Open Source newbie. mail/aerc looks to have a setup wizard but only supports IMAP.

I'd recommend not listed here mail/sylpheed. Nice, functional and pretty easy to setup.

I should have mentioned that the project prefers either gtk3/4 or terminal based clients. Sylpheed is gtk2 based and was previously the default email client. gtk2 is not getting any updates, including security updates, and the Sylpheed maintainer appears to have abandoned his project - his last release was a 3.8 beta that has not seen an update in about 1 and 1/2 years.
Claws-mail is a fork of Sylpheed and uses a nearly the same setup as Sylpheed. Claws-mail is active and has been updated to gtk3. I'll consider your reply as a vote for claws-mail. |

I've put Claws, because you say it is for a newbie setup - personally, I use web mail with a browser (Firefox), as it suits my usage well enough.

neomutt
It does require some program setup and configuration at google. Last edited by frcc; 4 Weeks Ago at 01:51 PM. Reason: additional configurationinfomation |

I'm going to spam my mutt page. https://srobb.net/mutt.html

I've had neomutt installed for years connected with Gmail using POP3. I am very satisfied as I like having important mail stored locally. It is nicely configurable. There are a few steps to do at your Google account if you intend to use it with Gmail. Otherwise it is lite and pleasant to use.
