Default xenodm crashes frequently

- pcmanfm crash
- start xenodm
- run pcmanfm
- xenodm crashes

- elfeed crash
- start xenodm
- run elfeed & do some CPU intensive work (?)
- xenodm crashes

Elfeed has around 3500 entries & when I click page down twice in a row,
xenodm crashes. There is no crash when I limit the entries to ~500. This
is not due to memory exhaustion. Also, I frequently load 2-5x size files
to buffer & I can spam page down on them, Emacs doesn't crash.

`.elfeed/' has around 800 files.

================ files ================

[/var/log/xenodm.log] https://paste.debian.net/hidden/ef053f15/
[/var/log/Xorg.0.log] https://paste.debian.net/hidden/5b8a5784/
[dmesg.boot] https://andinus.tilde.institute/0Jm1...vx85LVcHj3K0Eh

I also have `ktrace' of pcmanfm when it crashes & emacs core dump when
xenodm crashed. But both have sensitive information, pcmanfm ktrace
contains whole files & emacs dump has whole buffers. I can run things on
them & send the output though.

================ versions ================

- OpenBSD 6.8
- pcmanfm 1.3.1
- GNU Emacs 27.1

I had the same with pcmanfm, it crashed often. In the end switched to Xfe (Caja is good too).

Yes, I switched to Caja & I'm running elfeed in xterm.

xenodm also crashes when I run `telnet mapscii.me`. Doesn't crash when I run it in kitty or on remote host in xterm.

I updated the thread:

I forgot to mention that in my case the session itself wasn't actually affected, only pcmanfm crashed. I use xenodm and otherwise awesomewm and they were running fine, even if the file manager crashed.
I just tested telnet mapscii.me in xterm and no issues so far. Wondering if .xsession-errors might have useful hints. Am I wrong that there used to be a pcmanfm package? At least there isn't one available right now. It looks it's only available in ports. (As a sidenote: I could not set as user things like "list view" or "show hidden files" in Caja via Preferences. It worked only if I started Caja with doas.)

Thanks for the hint, looks like it was hitting some limits: https://paste.debian.net/hidden/c1c46d21/ (~/.xsession)

I ran `xterm', `firefox-esr' and `emacs elfeed' together to make it crash. It says "Fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server". I wasn't able to replicate the `telnet' issue on this run.

I'm able to set those options in Caja.

Similar crashes happened to me on Linux before on an older hardware (I guess more RAM is helpful in cases like that). So far no such experiences on OpenBSD.

This issue has been solved, it was unrelated to all these programs. Switching from the "intel" driver to "modesetting" driver fixed it. I wrote about it here: https://andinus.nand.sh/writings/fat...n-openbsd.html
