How to handle conflicting port dependencies?
I have FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE with KDE 3.5.8. KDE depends on postgresql81-client (why?) and I need to install PostgreSQL server 8.3 which depends on postgresql83-client. I don't want to remove KDE and I really need PGSQL 8.3. How can I install PGSQL 8.3?

Do you mean that there is a mere version conflict, or are the versions mutually exclusive? If the former, you can just install 8.3 and run a pkgdb -F (which will replace KDE's dependency on 8.1 with a dependency on 8.3).

KOffice depends on PGSQL and MySQL because of Kexi (the database application). I don't believe any other part of KDE3 depends on either.
