FreeBSD 7.0 patches

I understand there are some patches available for FreeBSD 7.0. Can someone point me to a patch list and what bugs each patch fixes?

I'd also be interested in seeing a list of what bugs have been fixed in (the not yet released) 7.1.

You can update for the latest bug and security fixes by using RELENG_7_0 in your cvsup file.

Using RELENG_7 brings in new features as well, and isn't guaranteed to be 100% stable. It's usually pretty good, but there're no guarantees. RELENG_?_? such as RELENG_7_0 is pretty much guaranteed to be at least as stable as prior RELENG_7_0 and 7.0-RELEASE, usually more so.

We were under there were five official patches for 7.0 but can find no specific information on these patches. I'm not referring to the security alerts, but I will certainly take a look at these. I'll look at RELENG_7_0 but again, we were more interested official release patches.

update your sources and have a look at
/usr/src/UPDATING
it contains brief info on fixes

You can also read UPDATING using the cvsweb interface, if you don't want /usr/src on your systems.

Thanks for this pointer. The question I have is how do I correlate the information in the UPDATING file with official releases. For example, the latest official release I believe is 7.0-RELEASE-p5. How can I tell from this list what fixes were made between 7.0-RELEASE and 7.0-RELEASE-p5?

You already mentioned it. /usr/src/UPDATING tells you what fixes were released as part of which patch. For example:

20081002: p5 FreeBSD-SA-08:10.nd6
Default to ignoring potentially evil IPv6 Neighbor Solicitation
messages.

You look for more details on the web, type in this URL:

http://security.freebsd.org/advisories/

At the end of that, put the advisory (example from above would be "FreeBSD-SA-08:10.nd6") and add ".asc" to the end. So, for the example above, you'll use this URL:

http://security.freebsd.org/advisori...-08:10.nd6.asc

Hopefully that helps you out.
