Well as the topic states I'm a newbie and I've installed Gnome.
However I've been trying to change the layout of the keyboard but it keeps sending me back to US one even though the one I want is sellected and defaulted. I believe it's something to do with the xorg.conf file that is setting me to US layout. However I can't find xorg.conf anywhere, even used locate and nothing found. I didn't use the Xorg -configure (or something like that) to get the X working, when I've installed it via ports it was working already. Should I still type Xorg -configure? Other problem of mine is to change the default window manager for gnome, trying to change to the Sawfish one but keeps giving me an error: #killall metacity; sawfish & error--> (error "sm-open-connection" "Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed") |

xorg.conf should located in /etc/X11/, refer to this thread and the link in it for details about how the configuration file is found.

Xorg -configure is the way to go. It will create an xorg.conf file for you and store the settings there.
No idea about changing wm though, sorry. |

Many thanks for both replies, I actualy did the Xorg -configure and the xorg.conf was created and all works, changed now the xorg.conf keyboard layout that was messing up when gnome started and works fine also, now just need to figure out how to change the window manager.

2. Have you tried 'sawfish --replace' instead of 'killall metacity && sawfish &' ? |
