File browser / Norton commander clone "noice"
I always used www/lynx as a local file browser, but I Just discovered sysutils/noice
The DESCRIPTION of the man page: Code:
noice is a simple and efficient file browser that gets out of your way as much as possible. It was initially implemented to be controlled with a TV remote control Code:
$ noice /var cwd: /var > account/ audit/ authpf/ backups/ cache/ crash/ cron/ db/ empty/ games/ log/ mail/ nsd/ quotas/ run/ sasl2/ spool/ sysmerge/ tmp@ unbound/ www/ yp/ Code:
cwd: /var/log > authlog authlog.0.gz daemon failedlogin ftpd lastlog lpd-errs maillog maillog.0.gz messages pflog post_install.report rdist/ secure wtmp xferlog

sysutils/mc runs in a console or a terminal and now supports sftp and secure shell remote logins. It also is highly configurable as far as default editors, mime types etc. It is billed as a Norton Commander Clone

If not the usual command-line tools, I use lynx. I've been using it so long it's second nature to me by now. It will be on the system anyway, so avoids adding another program. I must admit I have a mental block against the concept of "dedicated file manager" (especially graphical); if I ever had to use one I'd probably just give up computing.
